Gone are the days where Spanish exports were dominated by dusty old Rioja and far too peachy Albariño (though if you do happen to be in the market for the latter, we've got the salty, zippy, zesty stuff). Spanish wine is really coming into its own with a younger generation of winemakers, and the fringe appellations are where some of the most exciting winemaking is happening. The contemporary approach in Catalonia is especially exciting: native varietals, natural fermentations, skin contact, low extraction, super clean. The wine here compared to the rest of Spain is just about as analogous as the Catalan language is to Spanish (it's distinct, not a dialect). Our good friend Cory Gowan from Mission Wine Merchant will be in the house pouring the likes of Succés Vinícola, Celler Bellaserra, and Cellar Frisach. Come catch the Catalan wave!
