Description
Lake Garda is one of Italy’s most spectacular wine regions, a huge alpine lake surrounded by mountains, rolling hills, olive groves, and vineyards. The lake acts almost like a giant temperature regulator, softening the extremes of northern Italy’s climate and creating a surprisingly Mediterranean environment close to the Alps. Add the region’s glacial and mineral-rich soils and you get wines with a distinctive combination of freshness, brightness, and savory character.
We're taking a trip around the lake with Fabrizio from Oliver McCrum Imports exploring the incredible variety packed into this relatively small area. We’ll start with a locally made Americano Bianco, an Italian aperitivo that combines white wine with herbs, citrus, and bitter botanicals, before moving through crisp, mineral Lugana, aromatic Garganega, pale pink Chiaretto, juicy Bardolino, and fresh, peppery Valpolicella. Six wines and aperitivi that showcase this diverse, delicious tiny little pocket of Northern Italy.
