Only a tiny bit of this wildly delicious Croatian rouge ever makes it to California, so we tend to buy and re-buy both as fast and as long as we can. The Teran grape takes to the red dirt vineyards of Istria near the Italian Adriatic border. It has inky red color (pomegranate) and a cured meat scent that could easily be from across the border. Time in some French oak gives the wine a polished edge which elevates the wine far beyond "could be from a strange place" territory. A must try for Discovery Channel palates.
