Description
Is there a better portrait of Old-School, Old-Vine California? That's simultaneously a perfect picture of everywhere new-school Californian winemakers want to be going? If it exists, we don't know it. Morgan Twain Peterson is a great winemaker with access to some of the oldest, most fabulous vineyards in the state (some dating back to the 1880's).. Its core still revolves around Sonoma Valley oldies (Bedrock Vineyard, Monte Rosso, and Casa Santinamaria Vineyard), but new dinosaur astonishments have been added to the mix: Nervo Ranch, in Alexander Valley with its steep, decomposed shale soils; Sodini Ranch in the Russian River Valley; and the amazing Stampede Vineyard in the Clements Hills AVA of Lodi: own-rooted on granitic sands and planted in 1919. Brimming with luscious sun-dried strawberry, cherry rhubarb jam, and that trademark Bedrock spice. If you dig serious Zins with great structure, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better one for the money.
