Antonio Galloni, founder of Vinous, and the man sometimes considered among the world's greatest thinkers on and drinkers of Nebbiolo, had this to say about Conterno: “Baroli Cascina Francia and Monfortino are rightly considered by most observers as among the most profound wines in the world.” The 2018 is a wonderment: dense, rich and explosive out of the gate, with a softness and creaminess that's supririsng: there's not a lot of tannin here, relative to, well Barolo! Exotic and expansive, with bright red cherry fruit, blood orange, kirsch, sage and menthol opening with every additional 30 minutes in the decanter. Very, very special.
