Peter Molnar is back! The co-founder of Obsidian Wine Company, Berkeley resident, friend and neighbor -- Peter returns to Vine Street to do one of his awesome in-store seminars and tasting! We haven't hosted Peter since the pre-pandemic days, so we're delighted to have him at the shop -- he'll give an interactive wine seminar covering the effects of terroir, elevation and barrels on wine and will also guide us through a tasting of three of his wines:
Obsidian Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon, Lake County 2019
We've worked with his Obsidian Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon since the moment we opened our doors, and is a perennial favorite. Perched atop 2,350’ to 2,970’ peaks in the Mayacamas littered with old lava flow, this is the great Cabernet of Lake County--powerful, age worthy and simply delicious.
Chardonnay, Poseidon Vineyard, Los Carneros 2019
Peter grew up helping farm the family vineyard at the water’s edge in Carneros. Since the early 1970’s their Chardonnay grapes have been sold to well-known wineries, and have made their own cuvees for many years. Made with the saline-scented fruit of Carneros, tempered by cooling breezes from the San Pablo Bay - think key lime, jasmine, and lemon peel on the palate, with crunchy texture, a pleasant, custardy mouth-feel, and round finish.
Pinot Noir, Poseidon Vineyard, Los Carneros 2019
The new vintage Peter’s Carneros Pinot Noir is as delicious as ever. It’s well-stuffed with heady, aromatic red fruits and miles of that unmistakable Pinot spice. It’s aged in Hungarian oak barrels that the Molnar family sources and makes themselves!
Come learn about the effects of terroir, elevation and barrels on wine, taste some delicious wines and spend a fun Friday with us!
