Nebbiolo aka the “king of Grapes” is often hailed as one of the world’s greatest grape varieties, known for producing wines of immense character, elegance, and complexity. As the star behind legendary wines like Barolo and Barbaresco, Nebbiolo is revered for its ability to convey a deep sense of place. Wine critics often describe it as “the iron fist in a velvet glove,” due to its bold tannic structure that softens with age into beautifully silky textures.

We’re going to taste Nebbiolo from 5 different Italian regions showcasing how this noble grape transforms depending on its environment. From the powerful, earthy expressions of the aforementioned Barolo and Barbaresco to the more approachable, floral notes of Nebbiolo from Valtellina in Lombardy, the ethereal lightness of Canavese, and the minerality of Gattinara. Each region tells a different story through the grape. As famed wine writer Hugh Johnson once said, “Nebbiolo demands patience, but it rewards the wait with wines of extraordinary finesse and depth.” Well, no patience will be required here as we’ll be tasting all of these Nebbiolos on Thursday night!
