We are so excited to welcome Sam Bilbro of Idlewild Wines and fellow Idlewilder Thomas DeBiase of Jupiter Wine Co. for a tasting here at Vintage Berkeley on Vine street! 

Idlewild is Sam's Piedmont grape obsession come to life in Northern California. We've loved his wines since the first time we fell for his Cortese -- these are elegant, organically farmed, impeccably made wines from grapes varieties we rarely see here in California. Sam sources & farms fruit from just three vineyards (Fox Hill, Lost Hills Ranch and Rancho Coda), sharing farming duties at Lost Hills with Evan of Ruth Lewandoski Wines, and works with Chris of Broc Cellars at Fox Hill. His Cortese is incredible, and we also love his takes on Arneis, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo. Sam is a believer of uncommon vareitals, not only for unique wines but also for climate change -- "Someday, we might get more rain in the summer or colder winters. Planting more diverse vineyards will allow us to work with nature rather than against it”.

Thomas works side by side with Sam at Idlewild and also started the Jupiter Wine Co. project. Jupiter is a labor of love made in collaboration with Michael Richardson, focused on the lo-fi wines of central Italy. These are organically farmed, insanely food friendly takes on Vermentino, Sangiovese and Montepulciano. Plus, Thomas and Michael are super community focused too --they donate 100% of their net profits directly to affordable housing solutions for the Latinx community. As Thomas puts it: "We aim to establish an economic engine that stands up to consolidated, corporate wine and the economic apartheid those organizations have created towards agricultural and hospitality workers in this community".
