Bianka and Daniel Schmitt occupy a rare space where the experimental enthusiasm of modern German winemaking and the varietal typicity that defines its traditions meet in perfect harmony.

With many of their vineyards at more than 300 meters elevation with soils built on a notably high proportion of quartz and limestone, their wines offer a more mineral edge than fruit-driven expressions common in the region. They work with the Rheinhessen's most traditional varieties (Riesling & Spatburgunder), as well as a small parcel of Chardonnay. But they're not just playing by traditional German wine laws; Bianka and Daniel work with Georgian amphorae and utilize varying amounts of skin contact to offer broader texture. Most importantly? Their wines have a way of burrowing their way into the pleasure receptors in your frontal lobe, and once they're there, you won't be able to get them off your mind.

Honorary Solano Cellars team member Eric Quilty from Merchants of Thirst will be behind the bar to pour thorugh a lineup of DB Schmitt's new arrivals: Rosé, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay, and blisteringly good traditional method bubbles.
