Matthew Rorick is one of the most exciting winemakers in California, and his Queen of the Sierra series is his Monday-night-priced exploration of his special, limestone-soiled vineyard up in the Sierra Foothills. This is a typically Rorickesque (aka crazy-ass) blend of Picpoul, Verdelho, Chardonnay, and Albariño. Fresh & nervy with the barest bit of creamy richness, this is loaded with lemon and lime zest, and maybe hints of ginger in there as well. (Versatile as heck, but we’d hit this with sashimi or crudo and feel like smug geniuses about it.)
