Description
When Frédéric and Claudia Martin inherited their father Jean-Claude's eponymous estate in Chablis, they were keen to keep certain traditions alive.
They embraced his pioneering spirit through an ambitious commitment to organics and cultivation of alternatives to pesticide treatments, a movement Jean-Claude had spearheaded decades prior. Going even a step further, they continued his investment into scientific research into how to best protect these old Chardonnay vines against the threat of disease. And most importantly, they continued to craft wines made in celebration of the greatest terroir that this slice of northern Burgundy can offer, organically farmed and vinified with minimal intervention to best communicate the character of the terroir.
They only work with a small selection of Chablis' best vineyard sites. The most prized among them is the south-facing, limestone marl soils of the Beauregards Premier Cru in the south end of the valley, where they've been farming a small parcel for decades. Hand picked and pressed, and fermented and aged in old oak barrels, this is old school, expressive Chablis that highlights the bright acidity and crystalline minerality that make up the hallmarks of the region. And in the excellent 2022 vintage, with its generous depth of fruit, impressive structure, and persistent acid structure? This always impressive cru is even more attractive, both as a bottle to open now, or one to hide in the cellar to develop for a few more years.
As Frédéric and Claudia prepare to release their new labels, a redesign of their father's somewhat dated design that they've used since the early-aughts, our importer offered us a special price to take the last cases off of their hands. The 2022 Jean-Claude Martin Chablis 1er Cru Beauregards is typically $50 per bottle; now, we're offering it for $36 per bottle, and only $30/btl on a 6pk!
