That’s right, Carignane. What used to be a staple in the Californian wine landscape (and was once the #3 planted grape in all of California) is now often relegated to “Other Red Grape” status. Fortunately for us, Kenny Likitprakong’s Folk Machine label is focusing on forgotten varietals and putting them back into our glasses. Coming from insanely old vines (we're talking 70 to 100 years old) from Lolonis and Maria Martinson vineyards, punchy dark fruits abound, with zippy acid and crushed herbs around the edges. Medium bodied and only clocking in at 12% alc, this is perfect for the grill.
