(For $168? You can get a case of this...
or 4 measly bottles of Tempier Bandol!)
TL; DR: Seven reasons why! 1) Because Decanter Magazine recently called Domaine Ray-Jane's 202o Bandol the top rated pink wine in the world (!) — and this is her equally stunning baby sister! 2) Because Ray-Jane's less than a half-mile from Domaine Tempier — whose Bandol rosé now sets you back $56! 3) Because this is a classic, organically farmed wonderment... from a producer who's been making wine since 1288! 4) Because nothing belongs on your Thanksgiving table more than a pitch-perfect rosé! 5) Because: have you looked outside today? 6) Because this is such a serious & age-worthy rosé, it makes sense to have some on hand for spring and beyond! And 7) Because this may be the best single deal on any top Provençal rosé, from any store in any state, in all of 2020!
It's a perfect day for rosé.
Barely a half-mile south of Domaine Tempier, the winery made famous by Berkeley-ites Kermit Lynch and Alice Waters? You'll find the small, family-owned estate of Domaine Ray-Jane, founded in 1288 (about, oh, 6 centuries before Tempier entered the picture!)... and still one of the most traditional producers in all of Bandol. Jane and Alain Constant own the estate, and their organically farmed wines have long been said to be in the same league as Tempier and Pradeaux.
Until this year, that is! Because when Decanter Magazine recently released its comprehensive rosé review, only one winemaker was awarded 97 points and named "Best in Show" — Domaine Ray-Jane's 2020 Bandol.
We're excited to report both that a) we have an inside track on that wine for this coming spring, and that b) after a lot of work, we just secured what we think may be the greatest rosé deal of the year, anywhere: Ray-Jane's "baby Bandol," their 2020 Vin de Pays du Var Rosé — at what may be its best price ever: $14 on the case! (This is a wine that typically retails for $25 on the East Coast (as here, in NC) and costs even more out here!)
Nobody puts baby Bandol in a corner
Now, this is a rosé that's worth every bit of its normal $25 tariff: made from 50+ year-old vines just north of Bandol, it's a blend of all the usual southern French subjects: Mourvedre, Grenache, Cinsault, and Carignan. Gorgeously pale salmon in hue, it's got brisk, mouth-watering acidity, an electrifying mix of mineral, citrus, and floral aromas, and a palate that's as balanced as it is exuberant. Think: wild strawberries, blood oranges, crunchy Rainier cherries, white stone fruit, all atop a galvanic mineral core.
Made in the same underground cellar the Constant family has been working for 732 years, the old-vine grapes are organically farmed and estate-grown, and the wine's naturally fermented to boot: in short, this is a dynamite rosé in every regard.
At our price of $14, or over 44% off its usual cost? Get some for a sun-spangled day like today, some for your Thanksgiving table (somm after somm will tell you: rosé does the turk-work)... and some to "forget about," as this is a cellar-worthy rosé that will be delicious for years to come!
