Classes are BACK at Solano for 2026, and the first series of the year is set to be a stunner - a deep dive into the diverse regions of Piedmont with our friend and Italian wine importing legend, Oliver McCrum! No region in Italy holds a more special place in Oliver's heart than Piedmont, where he first got his start back in the early 90s. Over the years, he's formed deep and lasting relationships with the winemakers in the region, watching as new generations take over the historic, influential family producers he imports.
Class #1 (February 11th) - Alto Piemonte
Our first class will focus on the cool-climate Alto Piemonte, sitting at the base of the Italian Alps south of Turin. Here, Nebbiolo takes on a fresher, more aromatic profile, and indigenous varieties like the red Vespolina and Croatina, and white Erbaluce hit the palate like a gulp of mountain air. Each class will include a guided flight of 10 wines led by Oliver himself, snacks, printed materials to take home, and special discounts on featured wines for the duration of the class series.
Class #2 (February 25th) - Roero & Monferrato
Our first class series of the year rolls on! We explored the Alpine reaches of Alto Piemonte with Oliver; now, we're shifting focus to the rolling hills of Roero and Monferrato. We'll taste the richly textured Arneis that dominates the Roero landscape, soft and elegant Nebbiolo from just outside the more famed Barolo and Barbaresco zones, and wines made from native grapes like Dolcetto and Barbera, often seen as supporting players but deserving of their time in the spotlight.
Class #3 (March 11th) - Barolo & Barbaresco
It's time for the grand finale of our Piedmont classes with Oliver McCrum: Barolo & Barbaresco! And "grand" doesn't do justice to the outrageous lineup of wines we have planned - cru bottlings, vintage, traditional method bubbles that match Champagne's elegance with ease, perfectly cellared library bottles that perfectly showcase why Barolo & Barbaresco inspire frenzied obsession in so many oenophile's hearts.
