Indulge me for a moment: imagine a sprawling landscape dotted with numerous active volcanoes, each one bubbling up and coating the scenery in a sea of lava and ash. That scene you have in mind? That's Hungary, 10 million years ago.

Though there are no longer any active volcanoes in Hungary, the country's history of prolific volcanic activity is expressed in the spectrum of deeply mineral laden wines produced from its diverse landscapes. Without context, Hungary's landscape can seem bizarre, with flat plains giving way intermittently to hills of dense black earth surrounded by lush vineyards. What seems bizarre initially, though, is in fact witness to geological history: the singular terroir that exists today would not have been possible without years of violent eruptions and magma cooled by the shores of the Pannonian Sea, erosion eventually solidifying the basalt that is the hallmark of these soils.

Hungarian wines represent some of the most compelling (and criminally overlooked) wines in the world. Lucky for the terroir enthusiasts among us, local importer (and our friend) Danch & Granger brings us the very best of them.

We'll have Brian Stapleton of D&G pouring through 6 of our favorites from the portfolio, some old standbys, others exciting new discoveries that we can't wait to share. Brian has an encyclopedic knowledge of all things Hungary and a crazy impressive wine brain - come grab a flight and ask him all the questions about this incredible country and these unreal wines!

$25 for the flight ($15 for club members).
