Since 1993, Ferdinando Principiano has made world-class, elegant, organically farmed wines in the hills of Monforte d'Alba in Piedmont. His Barolos are some of our absolute favorites because they're insanely delicious, ethereal, super complex and also avoid the over extracted and high alcohol nature of many Piedmont Nebbiolo these days.

Ferdinando is focused on making wines he actually likes to drink: lower in alcohol, fermented spontaneously and light on additions of SO2. All farming is uncertified organic, but Ferdinando goes way beyond the normal organic practices and is obsessed with preserving and creating the conditions for biodiversity in and around his vineyards. These are insanely low intervention wines that simply tell a different story of Piedmont.
