Kermit Lynch Imports should need zero introduction in Berkeley but, just in case you’re new here, Kermit literally wrote the book on discovering authentic, excellent wines in France in the late ‘80s. Unique to Kermit’s meanderings on the so-called “wine route” was a keen focus on small, family-owned estates resistant to the influence of high tech winemaking. The wines Kermit got excited about (and brought back to the US) were made by vignerons favoring old school tools, techniques & winemaking styles. Kermit’s influence on the modern world of wine is manifold and the wine portfolio he established remains impressive and emblematic of his insistence on the superiority of low-intervention, old school winemaking.

Matt Gerloff from Kermit Lynch, will be joining us to pour a flight of five of our favorites from this star-studded portfolio of delicious wines. We’ll explore diverse wines from producers across Italy and France working organically in the vineyard and with a light touch in the cellar.

We’ll kick the evening off with some damn good sparkling Vouvray from Catherine and Pierre Breton, who Kermit describes as real life bon vivant vignerons. This dynamic duo farms eleven hectares of vines biodynamically just east of Bourgueil and are among the hardest working folks in the wide world of wine. The Bretons are emblematic of Kermit’s imports: despite making wines that are totally natural and unadulterated they are deeply consistent and clean. The Bretons’ hard work in the vineyard and the cellar results in beautiful, natural, unflawed wine that’s consistently delicious.

Come discover more stories and well-made, natural wines with a deep sense of place! See you in the backyard.
