A medieval tower dominates Serralunga, on the southeastern edge of Barolo, a fitting symbol for the structured, substantial wines of the area. Sergio Germano, whose winery sits just north of the village, is one of the most compelling figures in the region: not only does he make some of the most elegantly constructed Barolo we've had the pleasure of tasting, his deft hand extends to his stunning whites and Champagne-method bubbles.

The winery remains named for his father, Ettore, a respected grape grower and skilled vine grafter. Sergio combines modern winemaking knowledge with a deep respect for Barolo’s traditions. He and his wife Elena now work with their children Maria and Elia, all sharing the belief that great wine begins in the vineyard.

On Friday, our friend Fabrizio Pirolo of Oliver McCrum Wines to explore the best that Germano has to offer, including 2 expressions of Barolo (including from his iconic Prapò vineyard), his charmingly inviting Langhe Nebbiolo, vintage Blanc de Blancs, and some of our favorite whites that Piedmont has to offer.
