Nicolas Maillet, fourth generation vigneron and steward of his family's biodynamic and organic 14 acres of 50+ year-old vines, is the latest of new Burgundian discoveries - and the most impressive I've come across in some time. From the chalky, limestone rich soils of the village of Verzé, this is Chardonnay at its most texturally compelling: orchard fruit, nougat, and lime leaf spread across the palate like a soft cloud, before slowly dissolving into a mist of saline, piercing minerality, and brisk acidity. A revelation.
