We know Sicilian red wine as Nero d’Avola, but there’s another grape that’s Sicily’s secret weapon: Frappato. Light in color, but bursting out of the glass with wild berry, dried herbs, and crushed flowers, this is a wine for all seasons. The SP68, named after the highway that cuts through her vineyards, is a blend of Frappato and Nero d’Avola. In summer we serve it chilled, but it has substance and will match up against heartier fare. A warm fire and some cheese and salumi, please. Arianna Occhipinti obviously learned well from her uncle Giusto. A store favorite.
