2020 Martvilis Marani 'Full Skins No Stems' Ojaleshi
The perfect Georgian red doesn't exi... WELP! In comes Martvilis Marani Ojaleshi, as fun to say as it is to drink. From the native grape (Ojaleshi) this wine is floral and pepper on the nose, with all the vegetal, earthy, crunchy red fruits on the palate. Subtle tannins and woodsmoke tell you this wine is surely from Georgia, but Zaza Gaguas use of stainless steel in fermentation, rather than Qvevri, gives it a lifted quality remnant of old-school Loire. This wine is begging for a piece of pork or lamb roasted over an open flame. An absolute stunner and a new shop favorite.
