This is a convergence of the new and old guards: a blend of two of the state's oldest varietals, made by wunderkind Rosalind Reynolds, a veritable rising star who has worked with some of the best in the biz (Pax Mahle and Martha Stoumen, to name a few). A first sip, sourced from the organically certified, dry farmed Ricetti Vineyard, will have you asking questions: "Who said Zinfandel needed to be inky and dense, when it could contain this much crunchy blue and black fruit, every so delicately spiced and herb dusted?"; "Why assume Carignan carries only *baked* cherry notes, when it can express perfectly ripe cherries, picked right from the tree?" Old Vine glou-glou?? Miracles do happen!
