DuMOL is on most Pinotphile's short list of greatest producers in CA, straight up. Along with names like Williams-Selyem, Rochioli, Rhys, Kistler, et al., it's among the most sought-after, most-traded, and hardest-to-get Californian wines. (DuMOL's winemaker, the Scottish-born Andy Smith, has been called one of California's greatest winemakers by no less a figure than Robert Parker.) His 2020 Wester Reach Pinot is by all accounts, equal to the 2019 (which got 97-point scores). Composed from cool-climate vineyard sources in western Sonoma, it's silky and beautiful: red and black fruit, savory spices, earthy undertones, and hints of orange zest, sandalwood, and black tea.
