Antonella Lombardo: one of the greatest vinous discoveries of 2022 for me, full stop. (If she made more wine I'd likely have declared her my "Winemaker of the Year," and held a tasting party... but there's not enough to sell!). This is her Greco Bianco, called the "Cheiras," and it's done in an original, fermented-on-skins style that makes it dense, intense, and endlessly complex (wave after wave of notes arrive on your palate, and if you're like me and my colleague, it may induce expletives). Serve it in lieu of a red wine with a substantial white meat dish, like roast porchetta, or do it with nuts and cheese after dinner as what the Italians call a "vino da meditazione." A delightful freak of a wine.
