Romain des Grottes is a natural wine visionary making wine since 2002 in the lower plains of Beaujolais (south of Brouilly) -- quietly turning his appellation on its ear with dedicated organic farming and a winemaking philosophy focused on low intervention and drinkability! This cuvee from 2018 includes Gamay juice from the domaine including some grapes from a vigneron friend in Cogny, just south of Saint-Etienne-des-Oullieres. Vinified with carbonic maceration for 2 weeks, this is fresh, lively Bojo with a natural funkyness thrown in the mix -- think rustic farmland brett balanced out by a ruby fruitedness and savory spice. Natty deliciousness.
