On a recent trip up to Willamette Valley, at some point in each winemaker visit I’d casually ask the winemaker which of their peers they respected most? No joke: every last one of them mentioned John-Paul Cameron, almost without hesitating. We carry all of his exquisite single-vineyard bottlings in our back room, but for this price, his entry-level "Reserve" bottling is an unbeatable bottle of Oregon Pinot. A blend of both Clos Electrique and Abbey Ridge fruit, this has forest floor notes, baking spices and cigar box on the nose; sappy black cherry fruit & mushroomy earth along a deep mineral spine. For the cognoscenti, Cameron is where OR Pinot’s at.
