Six years back I went to Umbria in search of a new favorite thing. I found him on my last day there, when a cafe-owner in Bevagna told me to drive to a dilapidated old farm on the town’s outskirts. There I met Francesco Antano, and I’ve never looked back. Why drink Chianti when you could drink this, I wonder? 15% Sagrantino, Umbria’s magic grape (and the richest grape in the world!), mostly Sangiovese and a splash of Merlot. Dark plum, blackberries, leather, sour cherries & spices. Forget those Tuscan dreams -- go to Umbria instead!
