There's a new Burgundy movement on the rise, and Paul Perarnau & Willy Roulendes are among the most exciting members of that new generation of winemakers and grape growers. Roulendes cut his teeth at Domaine de Montille in Puligny Montrachet before taking the helm at Clos de Moulin aux Moines in Auxey-Durresses; for his part, Perarnau spent time managing vineyards at Oronce de Beler after his art studies took him to Paris & London. It's likely that balance of impressive Burgundian pedigree, their shared experience growing up in the colorful countryside of Roussillon, and Perarnau's ventures into the sleek, modern world of some of the world's busiest cities that informs their winemaking ethos - organic and biodynamic farming, minimal, if any, sulphur additions, and native ferments, all done with an obvious respect for the land and winemaking tradition of the region. The Beaune 1er Cru has a lush, silky texture, round red cherry and black plum scented with clove and juniper, and a pleasantly chewy texture. An obvious nod to the past, but with both eyes towards the future.
