Is Pepiere the benchmark Muscadet? It’s certainly in the discussion. The region's organic pioneeer has long been a fave of Loire nerds and newbs alike. In the kind of lemons-into-lemonade move that the past few years have forced on so many winemakers, the 2021 weather disasters in Northern France inspired winemakers Remi and Gwen instead of defeating them; unable to release their trademark ‘La Pepie’ cuvée due to hail and frost they relied instead on their amazing (also organically farmed) neighbors -- hence the cuvée name. Light, lemony, green-apple briny and incredibly refreshing, and with a hint of texture and complexity from lees aging. Merci indeed!
