When Lucien Crochet married the daughter of Lucien Picard, one of the first growers in Sancerre to bottle and sell his own wine, the subsequent fusion of the Picard domaine with his grandfather's estate could be summed up in one, neat little word: kismet. This fateful alignment of the stars (and old vine Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir) has blessed thirsty drinkers with a wealth of crisp, high-tone wines that distinctly express the sloped clay and limestone rich vineyards from which they're sourced. Crochet's rosé is surprisingly structured, with wild red berries and summer fruits densely packed on the palate, and more texture and muscle than its pale pink hue might suggest. Don't be afraid to hang on to a bottle for a year or two -- persistent tannins and an abundance of fruit allow this rosé to age elegantly.
