We've felt fortunate to taste a lot of delicious Spanish varietal wines recently from the region surrounding Madrid (Rufete! Airen! and of course Garnacha!)--and this bottling from Zestos may be our most recent Iberian fave. This is old vine, dry farmed, organic Malvar, planted in 1950 in the Arganda region southeast of Madrid. Think bright aromatics a la Sauvignon Blanc (bright citrus, bit perfumed, lifted minerals) combined with flavors of orange pith, green apple, a dash of ginger and more. Finishes taut, stony and long, with a suave floral nuance and really bright acid lingering. Really impressive for the price!
