Dollar for dollar, does anything froth our neurons and dilate our soul quite like Champagne does? We don't think so -- so does that mean Champagne is the greatest value in wine? There's certainly an argument to be made... especially with things like the biodynamically farmed (he sent us pictures of his compost), family-made, micro-produced Champers of Roland Piollot and his wife Dominique Moreau (the woman behind Marie Courtin Champagnes!) His entry-level "Cuvee de Réserve" is balanced and round, with notes of pear, apple, and the barest hints of candied citrus peel and white flower. Serious farming, serious winemaking, serious value, serious delight.
