This Friday at Vine, we explore the wines of one of our favorite wild winemakers: Francesco Cirelli. Francesco presides over a wild wonderland in Abruzzo: a certified organic farm (teeming not just vines, but with olive trees, garlic, spelt, wheat, barley, figs, geese and more) that's enveloped by almost 60 acres of wild southern Italian landscape.
This Friday at Vine, we're not just exploring Cirelli's wines; we're diving deep into a discussion of amphorae, and how fermentation in those ancient clay vessels can change a wine. (Cirelli ages some wines in terracotta amphorae and some in, well, vessels they didn't have millennia ago, and we can think of no better producer to demonstrate the difference!)
We're pouring seven of his wines! Come taste through his amphora and non-amphora renditions of Trebbiano d'Abbruzzo & Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, his Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo rosé... and probably some of his "Anarchy" bubbly if we're feeling frisky.
