Tuesday Nights are for Ruche! A tasting with Montalberra @ College Ave. April 2nd

Tuesday April 2nd 5-7:30pm
Vintage Berkeley College Ave
$15 flight of 3 wines ($10 for club!)

We love all things Piedmont around here and have been particularly excited about the lesser known varieties of the region lately! On Tuesday April 2nd we will have Svetlana Melnichenko from Montalbera Winery behind the bar to pour us a few examples of one of those rare varieties: Ruche! Montalbera is owned by the Moranda family who began their work on this variety in the mid '80's. They are located in Castiglione Monferrato, an area particularly well suited to Ruche with varying exposures and a bit more sunshine compared to Piedmont’s Northern territories. Montalbera owns roughly 60% of the Ruche' DOC which covers 82 hectares, meaning these are the people to learn about Ruche from! Sometimes referred to as Nebbiolo’s spunky little sister, we like to think of this light colored, aromatic variety as springtime Nebbiolo: more strawberry fruit, slightly less tannin and the perfect complement to parmesan covered asparagus! Join us a for special Tuesday night feature behind the bar and see for yourself why this has been our latest obsession!
