Poggio della Dogana is a story of two brothers who made a living in renewable energy but craved work closer to their Romagna roots. Aldo and Paolo Rametta established their winery, Poggio della Dogana, in 2016 seeking to honor the indigenous grapes of their home; the pair have been making beautiful, organic Albana and Sangiovese in the rolling hills of Romagna since then.

Maria Castelli (VB-alum who now works for Vintage ‘59 Imports!) met the brothers and toured their vineyards on a recent trip to Italy. Upon her return, she eagerly arranged for Vintage ‘59 to import these compelling wines. Maria will be here with Paolo Rametta on Friday, April 26 to share their delicious Romagnan wines (and special vermouth!) with you.

Emiglia-Romagna is very much a state made up of two nations. While their differences are many, in terms of wine, Emilia is tied to Lambrusco, whereas Romagna is tied to Sangiovese, a grape that grows from Puglia in the south up to Romagna, its northern limit. You may wonder what sets Sangiovese di Romagna apart from the Tuscan counterpart: the cooler hills of Romagna coupled with less stony soils lend the wines elevated acidity, and enhanced senses of fruitiness and freshness. Come see the difference for yourself! Taste four wines from Poggio della Dogana plus a spritz featuring their Beldemonio Vermouth Rosso.
